Error 404 bath bomb review: "It is interesting"

Originally Error 404 was a hidden freebie within the depths of the Lush UK website where you could only get one per order.  Free of charge and appealing to justify the postage of constant kitchen orders, something many of us Lushies were very happy about.  However the errors eventually disappeared and were never to be seen again... 
Only kidding! The Lush Kitchen has made this bath bomb two or three times since but has charged a price of £4.04.  A brassy beauty with intriguing patterns and designs all over, Error 404 is attractive to Lushies just like Magpies are attracted to silver.

I'll mention here that this isn't a favourite bath bomb of mine and I wouldn't use it again - actually I've only ever used it twice and never again.  The biggest reason being that this has a scent of baby powder/talc.  I know that the fragrance of baby powder is really popular and a hit with people but I just don't get it if I'm honest.

The bomb had many changes - the brass layer disappeared, the bomb became a turquoise colour, it then changed to a darker royal blue colour and finally changed to gold.  Four colour changes is rather impressive once compared to the average bath bomb Lush creates so it gets ten points in that department.  However, with Granny Takes A Dip, The Experimenter and The Luxury Lush Pud this little guy hides in their shadows.  And with good reason.  It isn't really colourful and the colours don't fizz out like a rainbow, but rather one at a time, which is a personal preference.

When the bomb fizzed away after 5 minutes and everything was settling I felt the fragrance died away entirely.  I couldn't smell anything - it was discreetly there for the beginning but it didn't stay long which was really disappointing.  I had to near enough dunk my nose in the water to get a hint of the fragrance.  But it did take a couple of minutes to fizz away due to the Cream of Tartar which is good for people who like a show.  Cream of Tartar tends to leave skin smooth - but some Lushies have said it can leave them with dry skin too - my skin wasn't left conditioned or softened as it usually is with most bath bombs.  As well as this, Error 404 is covered in brassy glitter just like Golden Egg is with gold glitter.  I fully expected to exit the bath covered in glitter but nada.  There was very little glitter left on my skin which I'm okay with but another surprise with Error 404 to note.  My skin was left just the way it was before I entered my bath and there wasn't a hint of fragrance left lingering on the skin either.

When I used Error 404 it was a freebie and not bought.  Considering it was a free bath bomb I didn't really want to knock this product much since I felt it was like throwing Lush's kindness in their face.  However, I'm not hesitating to now say that this bath bomb really sucks unless you love the scent of baby powder.  With no skin benefiting ingredients and not many oils I don't understand why this bath bomb is so highly priced.  It's more expensive than Geo Phyzz for goodness sake!  Error 404 isn't anything exciting beyond it's popular scent and rainbow magic so don't be fooled.  It's price isn't worth the bath experience it gives.

All in all Error 404 gives an entertaining colour show and that's about it for me.  It is interesting but not enough to make it a good bomb.  I don't recommend this bath bomb to anyone in need of good skin conditioning as I find it's targeted more toward aromatherapy bath times.  Anyone who loves baby powder scents will love Error 404 without a doubt.  Whilst you fans and lovers enjoy it I can avoid it entirely and enjoy my kind of bath bombs with an easy mind.

Avobath review: "Miracle Worker"

Avobath (£3.35) is a vibrant green bath bomb that is of citrus joy and lemongrass goodness.  And my favourite bath bomb.

Made with Fresh Avocado and Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Avobath is one of the most skin hydrating bath bombs Lush have to offer.  Extra Virgin Olive oil is packed with vitamin E providing good antioxidant properties.  Also packed with oleic acid and squalene, creating a moisturising and nourishing product that with no doubt will benefit the skin.
Avocado, like Extra Virgin Olive oil, contains vitamin E but it also has vitamins A, B and C.  These help to maintain skin and improve it's appearance.

In my opinion, Avobath is the fastest fizzing bath bomb from the bath bombs Lush offer all year round.  Since it doesn't have any rainbow magic (colour changes) or Cream of Tartar, the citric acid gets to work and within a minute this dissolves.

Avobath is my favourite bath bomb as it truly does refresh me and brings a smile to my face.  I recommend this for anyone who is feeling under the weather since it miraculously clears up the flu, the cold or any kind of bug I pick up.  It also perks up my mood.  I don't know how it does it but it does! I genuinely see it as a miracle worker.  This is also a pretty good alternative to Butterball bath bomb if you don't want as much greasiness and want a kick-ass fragrance.  Lemongrass oil has a sweet lemon like aroma and mix that with the Bergamot oil - this is a citrus wonder.  Due to the Avocado and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, this bath bomb is suitable for people with sensitive or dry skin as these are full of oil that hydrates the skin.

Coming out of the bath you should expect your skin to feel nourished and softer than before.  It leaves a discreet fragrance similar to the bath bomb before use, but it isn't identical to the bath bomb.  This is most likely because in build the most prominent thing you smell is the Lemongrass oil but in the bath it's most likely the Extra Virgin Olive oil and/or Avocado.  Avobath isn't Lush's best bath bomb for leaving a fragrance on the skin never mind a nice one.  So if you're wanting a nice scented skin outcome, Avobath may not be the one to use.  Avobath is definitely more for skin hydration and mood improvement.

Turning plain bath water into a luxurious green and giving a good bath experience, anyone who uses this will be in for a treat and be granted the promise of never having a dull or unsatisfying bath ever again when Avobath is involved.

Frozen bath bomb review: "Like a warm hug in the tub"

Since November 2013 Disney's Frozen has taken over the world in more ways than one.  It has gone on to dominate sales and marketing, winning Disney it's first ever animated feature film Academy Award and has become the most successful animated movie ever made.  Never mind capturing children (of all ages) hearts.  With all of this to Frozen and Disney's name, it still came as a surprise to many Lushies that one of the new bath bombs exclusively released in the Oxford Street store was inspired by Frozen.  What inspired Jack to make Frozen I'm not actually sure of, but this two-toned blue bath bomb is a rather exciting addition to the new bath bomb line up, and it is everything any Disney fan could ever want from Lush.

I think the fragrance of Frozen really took everyone by surprise as well.  Arguably I'd say this was the one bath bomb everyone was trying to predict the smell of and more or less got it wrong.  So wrong.  I believed this would either be chocolate or extremely floral like Secret Garden.  And I was also wrong.  Frozen is a bath bomb with a sweet and light citrus background due to the presence of Neroli Oil and Grapefruit Oil.  Neroli provides a really light floral and sweet smell when you first sniff the bath bomb which is then balanced by the bitter note of Grapefruit.  And together they make a perfect fragrance but I find Neroli is the most prominent note.  In actual fact, you can smell this for yourself.  Next time you're in Lush have a little sniff at Happy Happy Joy Joy hair conditioner and then you'll know what Frozen smells like.  The fragrance lasts throughout the bath and will leave a discreet aroma on the skin but sadly it doesn't linger long.

What I liked most about this bath bomb was it's true reflection to key elements of the Frozen hit.  Whether it's compared to Arendale's ice business, the eternal winter, Elsa's empowering transformation or love concurs all - Frozen's got it all.  When I dropped this bath bomb into the bath it immediately took action and released a long royal blue spiral whilst the outer shell slowly showed a soft white to pale blue base.  And the bath colour outcome can't be described as anything less as mermaid water.  Frozen is going to give fans of Mermaid Water diversity since it pretty much rocks that design in silver instead of gold.  Frozen reminded me of the credits at the end of the movie where all the different snowflakes fall because of how shimmery the water is.

But even more so, the design of this shimmer glittery water makes me think of a snowstorm, particularly when Elsa was having a blast, finding herself and letting it all go!  Frozen took roughly 8 - 10 minutes to fizz away entirely.

I recommend this bath bomb to everyone.  I recommend it to the person debating what bath bomb they should use before bed, I recommend it to the little boy or girl who's Frozen obsessed and I definitely recommend it to someone who's going out for the night.  This is either going to be the best or worst quality of Frozen, but it leaves you sparkling from head to toe.  After stepping out of a bath with this snowflake, you'll be ready to be the belle of the ball.  I'd say its more like Snow Fairy's Angel massage bar than Golden Egg's glitter outcome.  And I was just as sparkly the next day from using Frozen!  Although this isn't a moisturising bath bomb like Lava Lamp, it does soften your skin and ease your troubles.  If you use it before bed it will relax you and help you drift off to dreamland effortlessly.  Therefore I'd definitely say this is more aromatherapy based than actually skin benefiting.

Like a warm hug in the tub, Frozen is going to be a ground breaking bath bomb for Lush and I'll tell you why.  For any person out there that absolutely hates the movie, has never seen it or is traumatized by how many times they see or hear anything regarding Frozen - they can take solace in this.  Frozen will comfort you and bring your mood up nine levels higher than it was before.  This will be your guilty pleasure.
For any person out there that is Frozen obsessed, Kristoff and Anna shippers, Elsa admirers and Olaf crazy then this bath bomb will only fuel your passion even more and help you get your vocal chords ready for the big power ballad.
 A bath bomb suitable for all ages - c'mon let's just get that out the way because it's true - and perfect for any time of the year.  I can't wait for winter to come and to use this little sparkler with a cup of hot chocolate in my Elsa mug.  But it's also the perfect spring and summer bath bomb too.  I will buy this again and again, and every time I bath I'll be humming Let It Go.

Lava Lamp bath bomb review: "I couldn't stop touching myself!"

Anything with an attractive and captivating design, created by Lush, is always guaranteed to be an amazing product.  However, the majority of these products always tend to have a little issue.  Lava Lamp (£3.35) is one of the new bath bombs currently exclusive to the Oxford Street flagship store but has also featured in the Kitchen.  I finally got around to using this bright ball and well, it's certainly entertaining.  It's bright orange and purple polka dot exterior takes the mind and body back in time to the 60s to get groovy.

Lava Lamp has a very similar fragrance to Brightside bubble bar but it's more fresh.  Lava Lamp is like freshly peeled oranges making this really refreshing, uplifting but also really comforting.  To sum this up: in the bath it smells like warm orange juice which surprisingly smells delightful.  The bath water turns an incredible colour like Sunkist or Irn Bru drinks, and on top of this, there really is little pools of purple oil (just look below).  The purple orbs are melted cocoa butter and these pieces of cocoa butter are actually shaped like upside down Hershey's Kisses indented/compounded into the bath bomb.  And if you gather the melted cocoa butter into the hand, and you can rub it into your skin just as you would a lotion.  It kind of feels like a body butter when you do this.


And here comes the horror story most of us that have used this bath bomb have experienced.  Lava Lamp is definitely a mess in the tub.  You thought Golden Egg was bad?  Honey, it ain't got nothin' on this!  Quite literally, as soon as I dropped this baby into the bath and it started fizzing and melting, the purple pools of oils were immediately attracted to the sides of the bath.  There was a massive purple ring all around my bath and if I'm honest - this partly ruined my bathing experience.  I spent my entire bath trying to rub the edge of the bath to stop the oils sticking to it.  Eventually, I came to the conclusion that it was unavoidable and nothing I did would stop the oil sticking to the bath.


The next horror story is the purple cocoa butter also sticks to the skin.  Yes 100% Lava Lamp leaves a purple skin on top of the skin.  When I walked out the bathroom and someone saw me they actually screamed.  Therefore, I definitely wouldn't recommend this as a bath bomb to use when you're going out.  Don't worry though - it comes away quite easy when you towel yourself.  Although I'd recommend you use a darker towel just in the off chance it would stain a lighter one.  It also comes off the bath too when you give it a good clean.  But other than that, this is pretty much one of the best bath bombs I've ever used by Lush.

Lava Lamp is the most moisturising bath bomb I've ever had the pleasure of using - even more moisturising than Butterball.  In the bathtub I could feel how greasy my body was becoming and I was a little panicky it was going to be too greasy for my tolerance.  Though you're quick to forget about the greasy feeling when you're freaking out about the purple ring.  For a while after the bath my skin was super greasy but if I'm honest this didn't really bother me.  As an eczema sufferer and so on, I've spent years being smothered in emollients, creams and other potions, so this had nothing on that.  I only mention how greasy it was in case there are people who don't like how greasy Butterball bath bomb is.  And if you don't like that, you certainly won't like this.  

Nonetheless, about two hours after using the bath bomb the cocoa butter began to sink into my skin.  And the next day my skin was super soft and silky.  I couldn't stop touching myself!  My skin was in brilliant condition all down to Lava Lamp.  It is from that result I recommend this for anyone wanting a good skin conditioning bath product.  But in saying that please, please, please remember this does create a little mess.  It's a really cool and fun bath bomb but cleaning the mess afterwards could ruin the good time you've just had.  That is why I'd probably only use this once every two weeks.  Whilst it is a mess, not all the bath bombs Lush offer are conditioning for the skin and some aren't fragranced to my fancy, so Lava Lamp is a gold winner to me.  And I don't really mind looking like Violet Beauregarde.    I'm so, so happy I picked two up when the Kitchen made them but a little bummed I didn't get more than two, since this is without a doubt in my top 3 favourite bath bombs Lush have ever made.  It's cheerful and fresh fragrance lets all your current worries float away and you're left with a mesmerising bath that treats you good.

What's Behind May Day

The prospect of a new bath bomb from limited edition ranges get us Lushies hyped up.  It is no surprise the return of May Day bath ballistic was great news and a happily awaited return.   May Day is a beautiful liquorice and light sherbet scented bath bomb with a cute little badger design.  The best part of May Day is that it is a charity aiding bath bomb.  All profits collected from the May Day bath bomb go toward helping animal focused charities and supporting Lush UK's Votes for Animals campaign.

There are four supported charities in May Day: The League Against Cruel Sports, Animal Aid, Save Me and Common Decency.  All of these charities took part in the march to the UK Parliament for the Votes for Animals campaign.

Animal Aid is an animal rights group that campaign peacefully and desire a cruelty-free lifestyle.  Founded in 1977, this group exposes animal cruelty.
There is no doubt this organisation has animals in mind and their campaigns, actions and results prove this.  Animal Aid has been behind installing CCTV cameras in slaughterhouses tied to UK supermarkets like Tesco, ASDA and Marks and Spencer.  Every supermarket in the UK has CCTV cameras active in their slaughterhouses due to Animal Aid.  Animal Aid called on each supermarket to install these cameras to prevent brutality against animals which was a necessary change, as laws were being broken in slaughterhouses Animal Aid observed.  
Animal Aid has done so much more to help animals.  They go head to head with anyone or any company who they believe are being cruel to animals.  For example, Animal Aid stopped horse drawn-carriages coming about in Oxford in 2001.   There is no doubt in the good Animal Aid has done for animals and will continue to.  The organisation has lobbied politicians and fought for animals rights for 38 years.  It is fantastic Lush has included Animal Aid in this year's May Day bath bomb.  To read more about the incredible work Animal Aid does click here to go to their official website.

2014 May Day ballistic message

Another charity behind 2015's May Day bath bomb is the non-profit organisation Save Me.  The aim of this organisation is to bring awareness to the minority of animal's voices and the cruelty inflicted on them.  Last year, Lush Cosmetics teamed up with Save Me and produced May Day bath bomb to assist in the fight against the Badger Cull.  Save Me believe the culling of badgers could in fact make the bTB disease worse instead of better.  Founded in 2010 by Dr Brian May, the organisation believe with the scientific evidence of large period culling being more harmful than helpful should be taken seriously by government.  However, the scientific evidence or long culling periods spreading bTB has been ignored which makes campaigning more important.  To read more about Save Me and the work it does to help furry little creatures click here to go to Save Me's official website.

The League Against Cruel Sports is an organisation which campaigns to stop animal cruelty in animal sport.  Current examples are the Leagues desire for an end of the use of a whip in horse racing, and more defense and protection for greyhounds.  The League bring awareness by lobbying politicians and businesses, and expose the cruel actions to animals in animal sport.  The League was responsible for exposing the snaring of foxes, badgers and even domesticated animals to kill and capture them.  Also, the League provides animal sanctuary in dangerous areas to protect animals in need.
During the Votes for Animals campaign the League asked candidates to illustrate where they stood on specific animal cruelty grounds.  One of these issues is the Hunting Act of 2004.  The Hunting Act makes it illegal across the UK to hunt animals by dogs for sport since 2004.  For this General Election, the League want to know which political parties plan to not only defend the Hunting Act but will also strengthen it.  This Hunting Act has come under attack from political parties such as the Conservatives who wish to repeal the legislation and legalize hunting animals by dogs once again.  Obviously, this is not only animal cruelty but animal slaughter.   They have proposed a bunch of improvements for animal welfare but it must be considered as a mask to a degree.  Hiding behind all of these incredible promises is also the aim to change the Hunting Act.  To read more about The League Against Cruel Sports click here and to learn about Politcal Parties policies on animals click here, to go to a very user friendly website that has all the information a voter needs to learn who has animals in mind.  

May Day is a statement, promise and calling in the form of an adorable fizzing badger.  Lush Cosmetics accurately demonstrate their creativity and their passion in the form of what they do best - aiding a cause and a community with an imaginative product that could melt the coldest heart.  May Day bath bomb is a symbol very much the the Mockingjay.  This Badger shows how Lush feel about the appalling treatment of animals which mirrors Lush's heart and soul devotion against animal testing.  People who do not necessarily shop in Lush must know by now how Lush feels about this issue.  The high street is a long street and Lush's 'Fighting Animal Testing' bags that travel up and down, proudly and elegantly, show the sentiment involved within the company.

Honey Bee bath bomb review: "you got a sweet tooth?"

Honey Bee (£3.35) is a lovely yellow coloured bath bomb with brown waves/circles through it's design.  One of Lush's sweeter bath bombs due to its yummy honey fragrance.  And since it contains honey, this makes it a vegetarian bath bomb - not vegan.

Honey Bee gives a pleasant bath experience fizzing away and turning your bath water yellow.  In between popping this into your bath and it disappearing, the bath bomb contains little chunks of honey and rhassoul mud which come away like seaweed from Big Blue.  Other than this, there isn't anything overly exciting with Honey Bee.  It has no rainbow magic (colour changes) and with a lack of Cream of Tartar the bath bomb fizzes quite quickly like Avobath.  It smells so sweet and very much like the rest of Lush's honey products.  It isn't as strong as the soap, shower gel or shampoo bar, but it is a part of that scent group.  Honeylicious.  This is for anyone who has a sweet tooth and cannot get enough of honey love.  So, you got a sweet tooth? 

The benefit of Honey Bee comes from the Aloe Vera Gel and Honey within.   Honey is both moisturising and antiseptic.  It also contains antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-fungal properties and has the ability to attract and retain moisture.  And if this didn't make Honey Bee good enough for skin, the addition of Aloe Vera Gel and Aloe Vera Extract make it a delight.  Aloe soothes itching and is good in calming sunburn or redness caused by the cold.  It softens the skin and helps to protect it.

I tend to buy this time to time rather than religiously like Avobath.  Personally, I don't find it as good as Avobath in how well it conditions the skin and I much prefer the smell of Avobath too.  I'm a massive fan of the Honey product line with Lush but the bath bomb isn't the greatest one on offer, in my opinion.  I use this on an odd Sunday afternoon every month or so.  I find it gives a relaxing bath and leaves you with soft skin rather than moisturised skin.  I do recommend Honey Bee to anyone who hasn't tried it to form your own opinion but anyone who doesn't like the Honey line (Honey I Washed my Hair, It's Raining Men...)  I think it would be best to venture other bath bombs.  And if you're a fan of the Honey line up then give this little honey a pop.  Everyone has their favourite bath bomb and this may be yours!

Golden Egg Review - 'Golden Egg really is one of Lush's most specialbath products a Lushie can try'

As of late, at least one product from Lush's seasonal goodies is a beautiful, sparkling, glitter bomb (or bubble bar).  There was Sparkly Pumpkin in the Halloween Collection, 

Holly Go Lightly bubble bar and Star Light Star Bright bath melt in the Christmas Collection and the Lonely Heart bubble bar in the Valentines Collection.  And in the delightful 2015 Easter Collection there is once again Golden Egg.

Golden Egg is the bath bomb/bath melt all lush employees seem quite pleased to see the back of when Easter is over.  Glitter goes everywhere and I mean everywhere.  There is no escape from the Golden Glitter of Golden Egg!

But whether you love or hate the glitter monster, Golden Egg really is one of Lush's most special bath products a Lushie can try.  When I first discovered Lush, it was Easter and Golden Egg was one of the first bath products I tried.  I immediately fell in love with its toffee and caramel fragrance... Its fragrance is very much like Honey I Washed the Kids soap, Honey I Washed My Hair shampoo bar and It's Raining Men shower gel.  Smelling Golden Egg and It's Raining Men together, there is a difference between the two fragrances but all in all the similarities overrule their differences.  I'm guessing it is the lack of honey in Golden Egg which causes the slight difference. 

It's price is £3.75 and it's a steal when you consider it's a bath bomb and bath melt.  When you plop the egg into the water the bath melt gets to work first and then when that's melted, the bath bomb begins to fizz away.  Trust me, you'll see the difference.  

The fragrance stays constant throughout the entire bath.  I was in the bath the other night for almost over an hour and the fragrance didn't die down whatsoever.  And the fragrance left behind on skin? YUM.  The way Golden Egg smells when picked up in store or delivered in hauls is exactly how you smell when coming out of the bath.  This would be a really good pre-outing bath product since it leaves a beautiful glitter blanket on the skin and you smell delicious, incredible and you surely will feel comfortable in your own skin.

As soon as you step into the bath you can feel within minutes your skin is moisturised and nourished.  It may feel greasy and for some people it may actually be too greasy but that's a personal preference.  Imagine your body after using King of Skin, African Paradise conditioner or Ceridwen's Cauldron bath melt.  Just don't expect to go into a bath with Golden Egg and come out with 'soft' or 'smooth' skin by the likes of Honey Bee ballistic.  The bath melt is a bath melt regardless of it being a bath bomb as well.

The only criticism I have for Golden Egg is it is one hell of a mess to clean up after using it.  Even if you just shower the bath down whilst your draining it - the glitter still sticks to the bath! It kind of annoys me that some Lush employees tell customers this doesn't happen OR a specific employee once told me; it's because I used hot water. And why wouldn't I use hot water? It's a bath! But that's really besides the point.  Please just be aware that the glitter does stick to the bath, particularly the bottom, and it will also stick to the sides if you don't hose the bath down whilst draining.   Last year I got out the bath and drained and walked away to get a drink and planned to clean it later.  When I went back... My bath looked similar to sandpaper.  And it felt like it too, actually.  It took me half an hour to clean my bath - going through a quarter of cleaning product and it ruined my cleaning cloth too.

As I previously said, Golden Egg is a treat for any Lushie to try and you'll see why yourself when you try it.  It's kind of special.  I'd recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it before.  And I'll conclude by writing that Golden Egg is the best Easter product in the Easter Collection by Lush.
