About Me

I became a Lushie in February 2014 when Lush's Sympathy for the Skin cleared up my eczema and open wounds from another condition for the first time in my life.  I've suffered skin problems from around five years old and I've had the gruelling journey of doctor appoinments, dermatologists, UV light treatment and so on.  I've also been hospitalized due to how bad my skin was.  I've had adverse reactions to some treatments healthcare give for skin problem patients, and in October 2013 I was admitted  for first-degree and second-degree burns because of steroid creams... A lot of people wouldn't believe that but that is what happened.

I lived a life of wearing joggies and long-sleeved t-shirts ashamed of how I looked.  I couldn't wear anything else as jeans, nylon etc rubbed against my sores and irritated them.  And sometimes even joggies/yoga pants were hard to wear as they somehow got attached to the scabs and would rip them off.  I couldn't use anything in the shower and the shower itself... It was the most physically painful part of my day.  After having water sting my open skin I'd have to sit for around twenty minutes everyday waiting for my skin to dry by itself as I couldn't even pat myself dry.  During this my skin would pulsate and throb from having the shower.  I'd then have to put thick gel pads all over my body to prevent infection.  Looking back now, I honestly don't know how I lived and coped with that.  It just doesn't even seem like me when I remember things.  (I would post some pictures of how my skin was but I'm a little nervous how graphic people would find them).

No one suggested Lush to me, it was purely nosiness on Instagram that brought Lush to my attention.  I was intrigued about their bath bombs, bubble bars and so on.  It was actually a form of torture what I did because there was no way I'd ever get to use them, right?  Well, at the start yes.  There was no way I'd get to use them.  But when two lovely Lush employees (Debbie and Jodie) saw a patch of my skin, they gave me a tub of Sympathy for the Skin as a Random Act of Kindness because they could see how resigned I was to living a life restricted by skin problems.  And this act of kindness has changed my life.

Within seven days of using Sympathy for the Skin... My skin healed and it cleared.  My skin had never cleared before this.  I always had open sores and I really didn't remember what clear skin looked like on me.  Why would I? It had almost been fifteen years since I'd seen clear skin.  But Lush gifted me something I never thought I'd have again.  And that is why I'm so passionate about Lush.

I started my Lush account/blog in May 2014 when I tested the waters as my skin was totally clear, and started using Lush's bath bombs.  From bath bombs, to bubble bars, to bath melts and soaps... Then I was onto the shower gels, body conditioners, and I suddenly became a 'Lushie'.   I can't pin point when I realised that, but I guess you could say I became a Lushie the day I made my Lush instagram account: @lushvoyage

On there... I've spoken to some incredible people and I do feel they are genuinely interested in my voice and that they do care.  I like to call it a community, just as others do as well, but really... It's a family.  I can't thank them all enough for having me.  I do mean near enough every Lushie on instagram and I want to thank you.

I also want to thank some specific Lushies for being constant.   They are friends who are encouraging in more ways than they know, who have such amazing accounts they have my interest every morning when I wake up and every night before I go to sleep and all of them should have the power to run this world because they're that awesome.

And that's why I'm @lushvoyage and why I love Lush Cosmetics.  I've now had clear skin for an entire year with two eczema flares that cleared up with some TLC by Lush.  I'm a proud Lushie and will stick with Lush for the rest of my life with how well its treated me.  Just as long as they don't bleed my bank account dry... ;)
