After months of waiting for it and Cup o'Coffee they are finally available at Lush's Oxford Street flagship store. But I like to call it Lush's superstore. Same difference.
Hyped as a mash up of Lush's Big shampoo but with the addition of eggs and other ingredients, this has been a product I've been longing for. And boy it doesn't disappoint. The pot explains this shampoo is for "big hair with a whole lotta swing" and with the promise to revive your hair with "new life".
The attraction to this product starts with it's name. Most of Lush's products (if not all) tend to have a meaning behind it's name and at this point I don't know it's story. However, this product months ago was behind dying Mark's hair green. Green! It was in the midst of trial and error, and the shampoo had an error. But with how good it smells right now - you'd never know.Jersey Bounce is a really sweet scented shampoo which I was delighted to discover. Don't get me wrong, I love my Curly Wurly, but I don't really think Lush's shampoos are sweet. But Jersey Bounce is definitely sweet like a treat. Smelling this from the pot the immediate fragrance is lemon and honey. These two together create an edible and yummy fragrance which just goes toward your enjoyment of the product. I use a lot of honey in my day to day life but the only time I've ever combined honey and lemon together is when making a lemon cake. Jersey Bounce smells exactly like the curd/icing I make for the top of my lemon cake. So for anyone who is planning on picking a pot of this up at Oxford Street or through someone else, please keep in mind this is a gorgeously edible smelling shampoo. It actually reminds me of Lush's body spray Dad's Garden Lemon Tree - not directly alike but alike nonetheless.
Containing eggs to strengthen and condition the hair provides high quality. The eggs give a protective coat and due to the protein levels it gives hair shine too. And it's also believed they can promote hair growth due to the levels of vitamin D. The addition of lemon juice gives hair even more shine and can possibly lighten hair too. But the lemon juice and lemon oil allow the scalp to get a great cleanse, making the scalp feel super clean whilst being gentle about it.
Touching this shampoo from the pot is really sticky. And I mean really sticky. This lets us know just how much honey is in this product. It's consistency probably isn't what people are expecting. Personally I've found it's just like squirting some shower gel out of the bottle - it's nothing like the saltiness of Big shampoo. Maybe it's just been my pot but there isn't much salt in it whatsoever. Jersey Bounce doesn't lather between hands well but when I applied it to my hair the lather built really well. A little amount goes a long way which is good but on the other hand, my 100g pot didn't last me the month after using it every day to every second day. I'd definitely want the bigger pot if and when the opportunity presented itself.
This shampoo made my hair really squeaky clean so without a doubt I'd use a conditioner each time rather than skipping it. When I did skip it my hair was in a terrible state - it was literally like someone had spent hours backcombing my hair. So in that regard I suspect Jersey Bounce could be a little drying in the long haul without conditioner. But on a good note my hair was left with a nice discreet lemony scent. It isn't strong whatsoever - I need to smell my hair to smell it but that doesn't bother me. I can see myself buying a body spray of Dad's Garden Lemon Tree to vamp up the smell. Very clever Lush, very clever.
All in all I applaud Lush for creating a new shampoo which treats a sweet tooth like myself. Towards the end of the month and the end of my pot, I actually did find Jersey Bounce was helping the body of my hair and making it look thicker, bouncier and unrulier than it usually does with Daddy-O. But the biggest thing I like is how soft my hair is from using Jersey Bounce. My hair feels in good condition and soft and I'm sad I didn't have the bigger pot to see how my hair progressed with it further. I wouldn't say this is Big with eggs because it's totally different, and in a good way. Not only is it a new product in itself but it gives people who find Big too harsh because of the salt another shampoo to try. And it gives everyone a new shampoo in general! Definitely in my favourites, I'd repurchase it before most of Lush's other shampoos. Anyone who has the chance to pick up this shampoo should because you're missing out if you don't. It makes hair soft and fluffy and seem weightless - could you want anything more?
Jersey Bounce has a 14 month shelf life.
